How Many Sexless Marriages End in Divorce?

How Many Sexless Marriages End in Divorce?

Sexless marriage statistics show that this isn't some rare phenomenon but an actual epidemic, with about 15% of couples in the United States alone who are living in what is defined as a sexless relationship (less then 10 times a year).

Naturally, this brings a lot of tension, anger, and resentment into a relationship and so the question is: how many sexless marriages end in divorce? And, if you're currently living in one, will yours end in divorce too?

There are many factors which lead to divorce. The reasons are varied and so it's hard to pinpoint exactly how many sex starved marriages end in divorce. There is no substantiated statistics that I've read about during my research that answers this question specifically. However, there is one fact which I have no doubt about: the risk of a divorce is much higher in such a marriage.

Why?

It's simple: people need sex. It's part of human nature. It's a basic need. When people get married they do so out of love and attraction. And part of love and attraction is being able to display that love through lovemaking.

When one spouse rejects the other on a regular basis, negative emotions build up between the two and these can spark fights, resentment, estrangement, and affairs. Because one partner isn't getting the sexual gratification he or she long for (and this can happen to both men and women), the chances of going outside the marriage and seeking a sexual partner are higher.

The sad thing is that often sexlessness isn't the result of a lack of love. Often, either the husband or wife simply lost their sex drive, or some rift between the two is causing this. Because the love doesn't always does along with the sex, some marriages last for years on years and people don't get divorced. However, the risk of a separation is much greater. For that reason, the need to address this issue is urgent. Your marriage depends on it.
